"Heading for the Hudson Bay"
Maple and Mahogany 16"Wide x 8"High x 8"Deep This carving, from a laminated piece of maple (2 blocks), is of a French-Canadian
trapper taking his furs to the nearest Hudson Bay Trading Company. It is springtime,
and he has rolled up his sleeves, ready to take on the rapids just ahead. The inside
of the canoe is very detailed, from the ribs of the canoe to the black powder rifle under
his furs. The weather may be warm, but he has still donned his toque (winter cap).
This is the first time I had ever used mahogany for a base.
